Probabilmente i più al nome The Mighty Underdogs esclameranno eh?, e se siete tra questi spero che vi bastino tre nomi: Gift Of Gab, Lateef The Truth Speaker e Headnodic, produttore dei Crown City Rockers. Sufficiente? "The Prelude", l'EP che nel 2007 avrebbe dovuto stimolare le fantasie dei Quannum-dipendenti, è passato abbastanza in sordina, anche per via della sola distribuzione tramite giftstribution.com: ma poco male. Il titolo "The Prelude" infatti non è un caso e sta a significare che il suddetto EP è solo la succosa anticipazione di quello che nell'ottobre 2008 sarà "Dropping Science Fiction", l'LP ufficiale del supergruppo californiano che ospiterà personaggi mica da ridere come Chali 2na, MF Doom, Dj Shadow, Mr. Lif, Akrobatik, Lyrics Born, Casual e i fratelli Marley, e che uscirà - udite, udite - sotto Def Jux ("The Prelude" è acquistabile infatti anche dal sito della label di El-P). Per ora ci accontentiamo di sei tracce con due mostri al microfono, uno alle produzioni e ospitini come MF Doom nella violentissima "Gunfight", Dj Shadow (che avrà anche dimenticato come si produce, ma con un fader e un piatto sotto mano sa ancora quel che deve fare) che scratcha in modo assassino nella potentissima "U.F.C." (Gab da orgasmo), Ladybug Mecca dei Digable Planets nella westcoastyle "Love-Life Soundtrack" e Raashan Ahmad dei Crown City Rockers nella disco-style "Bring Me Back". Se il buongiorno si vede dal mattino...
