Partiamo dalla biografia di Pimp C: finito in carcere per rapina a mano armata, pur avendo un lavoro a dir poco fruttuoso; morto giovane e ricco in una camera d'albergo per un cocktail di farmaci. Tutto questo non ha senso. O meglio, non ce l'ha per delle persone normali, che non sono mai state introdotte nel mondo della criminalità e della droga. Ma se non bastano neppure i soldi a palate per cambiare abitudini, frequentazioni e stile di vita, allora vuol dire che la vita di strada è una cosa seria, nel bene e nel male. E' con questa breve premessa che prendo in mano l'opera datata duemilasette del duo texano. Tanto materiale, musicale, moderno, dall'ascolto relativamente facile. Si contano tre o quattro perle per ciascun disco, che sono due; il prodotto della moltiplicazione è abbastanza alto. Ricordiamo i pezzi migliori del primo: "The Game Belongs To Me", solare come una passeggiata sul lungomare con una granita e una bella ragazza accanto; "Underground Kingz", tranquillo come una serata in birreria con gli amici; "Take Tha Hood Back", potente come una Mercedes con cinque litri di cilindrata. Passiamo al secondo: "How Long Can It Last", brano incredibilmente profetico, è la riflessione tipica di chi se la gode, forse anche troppo, chiedendo con tanta franchezza direttamente all'altissimo quanto ancora potrà durare; "Stop-N-Go", con la sua strana malinconia, è un pezzo che merita notevole attenzione. Ma qui abbiamo ventinove tracce, non ve le cito tutte perché servirebbe a poco e mi limito a un consiglio: chi snobba il Southern Rap potrebbe cominciare proprio da "Underground Kingz", un disco dove ciascun tassello va al suo posto, con numerose partecipazioni che magari neppure t'aspetti e tanti brani validi, brillanti o meno, comunque degni di stare in quello che è, in assoluto, uno dei migliori progetti provenienti dal Texas.
